The Ceramic Icon in Medieval Bulgaria

Това е първият сериозен опит за цялостно изследване на керамичната икона в средновековна България (IX-XIV). Направените изводи са важни не само за българското изкуство, но и за културата на целия православен Изток. Книгата разрешава спорните въпроси около произхода, иконографията, стила, датировката и функциите на керамичната икона в средновековна България. Използван е целият наличен материал от археологическите разкопки и проучвания във Велики Преслав, Велико Търново и Червен. The present monograph considers and summarizes the results of the author"s activities of long standing as an archeologist, art historian and medievalist. It is the first serious attempt to fully elucidate the ceramic icon in medieval Bulgaria (9th - 14th c.). the conclusions reached in it are important not only for Bulgarian art but for the culture of Bizantium and the Orthodox East as well. The book deals successfully with the issues of the genesis, the flourishing, the iconography, the style, the dating and the function of the painted and embossed white and red clay icons in madieval Bulgaria using all materials from the archaelogical excavations and investigations in Great Preslav, Great Tarnovo and Cherven available up to now.
